Job Description: Inventory Manager - Transportation and Logistics
Position Overview:
The Inventory Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of inventory control and management within the transportation and logistics industry. The primary objective of this role is to ensure accurate inventory levels, efficient storage, and timely movement of goods in order to meet customer demands and organizational targets.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement inventory management strategies and procedures to optimize inventory levels, minimize carrying costs, and ensure accurate stock counts.
2. Monitor and maintain accurate inventory records, including tracking and documenting all incoming and outgoing shipments, ensuring data integrity in inventory management systems.
3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to forecast demand, plan inventory levels, and optimize stock replenishment strategies.
4. Conduct regular inventory audits to identify discrepancies, investigate root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent stock variances.
5. Analyze inventory levels, usage patterns, and lead times to identify opportunities for improvement and efficiency gains.
6. Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to maintain appropriate stock levels, resolve delivery issues, and negotiate favorable pricing and terms.
7. Manage the allocation of inventory based on sales forecasts, customer requirements, and production schedules.
8. Collaborate with warehouse and distribution teams to ensure proper storage, handling, and movement of inventory, optimizing space utilization and minimizing damage or loss.
9. Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including internal departments, third-party logistics providers, and suppliers.
10. Stay updated with industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in inventory management to drive continuous improvement.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
2. Proven experience (X years) in inventory management within the transportation and logistics industry.
3. Solid understanding of inventory control principles, including cycle counting, safety stock, and ABC analysis.
4. Proficiency in using inventory management software and advanced Excel skills.
5. Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make informed decisions.
6. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
7. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
8. Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
9. Knowledge of transportation and logistics processes, including freight forwarding, customs regulations, and warehouse operations.
10. Strong negotiation and vendor management skills to ensure cost-effective procurement and timely delivery of goods.
